Music Video Analysis 2 P1 (a-f)

Katy Perry - The one that got away

Institutional/reference information
Music Video - The one that got away by Katy Perry
Director - Floria Sigismondi
Recorded - 2010 at Conway Recording Studios, ( Hollywood, California)
Song written - Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Katy Perry
Genre - Pop music

The music video was attracted me by the story and aged Katy. She was acting as an elderly woman with wrinkles on her face and hands, grey white curly hair. To do this, she sat on a chair for 8 hours just for the make up. In the video, she began to think about her colourful pasts with his boyfriend.

In the music video, the lyrics in the chorus [In the another life, I would be your girl], [In the another life, I would make you stay], they are the lyrics and feeling of Katy feels. She doesn't want his boyfriend leave her. She regretted what she did to him after she knew he got a car crash and died afterwards. In the verse of the lyrics, [On my 18th birthday, we made matching tattoos], [Someone said had your tattoo removed, saw you downtown singing Blues.] They made a matching tattoo was because they loved each other, based on that if he removed it means that he wasn't loved her anymore.

The music video was kept changing slides of Katy sang in a changing room, elder Katy thinking back her past, and the young Katy's past with her boyfriend, while the music was playing. For the music beat part, this is a pop song with the same beat keep on going, however they made a little pause of the beat in the beginning of second and third chorus (In the another life). The video was the part that they made their matching tattoos and the guy was leaving the house.

The song "The one that got away" was peaked at number three on Billboard Hot 100, with Teenage Dream becoming the seventh album in the 53-year history of the Hot 100 to generate at least six top 10s. The single song reached to the top of Billboard Hot DanceClub Songs, Adult Top 40, and Mainstream Top 40 charts.

Perry said in a statement from the label:
"I'm so pleased to select 'The One That Got Away' as my sixth single because this song shows a very different side of me that I haven't shown with my past singles on this record, I think that everyone can relate to this song. I wrote it about when you promise someone forever, but you end up not being able to follow through. It's a bittersweet story. Hopefully, the listener learns from hearing it and never has to say they had 'The One' get away."
Compare to the last song of her "Last Friday Night", they have totally different style to present a song. In the music video, she was acting as a nerdy teenager with braces, headgear, and oversized glasses, has just awakened the morning after a house party on Friday. The song brings out a feeling of crazy and hangover compared to "The one that got away"which is a sad song and tells a feeling of someone had got away.
